The Maryland Chamber of Commerce represents the unified voice of the Maryland business community. It is the advocacy arm for businesses in the development and promotion of strong public policy that ensures future economic growth for Maryland businesses, employees and families.

Content Writer

At the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, the Content Writer drives the ideation and creation of compelling writing including stories, website copy, white papers, blog posts, press releases, grant applications, speeches, social media content and marketing messaging. The Content Writer (CW) is responsible for adding value by actively engaging customers and stakeholders while maintaining a cohesive brand voice. The successful candidate will be passionate about the customer and user experience. This job is located in Annapolis, Maryland (remote work is not an option.)

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Journalism, English, Communication

4-6+ years full time experience and a proven successful record as copywriter or content creator within the professional services industry

Responsibilities

Content Writer

At the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, the Content Writer drives the ideation and creation of compelling writing including stories, website copy, white papers, blog posts, press releases, grant applications, speeches, social media content and marketing messaging. The Content Writer (CW) is responsible for adding value by actively engaging customers and stakeholders while maintaining a cohesive brand voice. The successful candidate will be passionate about the customer and user experience. This job is located in Annapolis, Maryland (remote work is not an option.)

Qualifications

  • Entrepreneurial self-starter that is highly motivated and takes initiative
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Develop, compile and edit supplemental materials that support written communication (i.e., backgrounders, biographies, executive talking points, and other related materials).
  • Establish and maintain extensive contacts with key sources (media, news services, community organizations and other targeted audiences) to identify story themes and newsworthy events to promote and disseminate information.
  • A big picture thinker with a keen eye for detail
  • A strategic content developer that excels at creating informative, engaging writing targeted toward a wide variety of audiences
  • Able to create unique, original, high-quality and error-free content, at a fast pace, based on agreed-upon industry standards, brand positioning, and operational strategy
  • Exceptional communication and editing skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Able to drive production and keep up with a fast-paced, rapidly shifting environment
  • Editorial mindset with an ability to anticipate the needs of different audiences
  • Able to adapt to frequent priority changes
  • Proven time management skills, excellent organization, attention to detail, and multi-tasking skills
  • Able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously within inflexible time frames
  • A continuous learner, the candidate will need to research, write and edit content in areas they may not be familiar with
  • Able to take charge when needed, own mistakes, take direction, and receive critical feedback
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, marketing automation software and Office 365 tools
  • Background in writing content for corporate marketing campaigns preferred
  • Basic understanding of SEO as it is related to content and on-page factors
  • Hands on experience with SEO and web traffic metrics is a plus
  • Must understand social media platforms and content best practices
