Each year, PRSA Maryland installs a new board of directors and a pool of member-volunteers who work together to organize and manage the chapter’s programs and services. Today, the PRSA Maryland Board of Directors announces the following slate of officers for 2013. This group will be voted upon by PRSA Maryland members via survey beginning Monday December 26, 2012.

PRESIDENT: Nneka Jenkins
Account Executive, Kaiser Permanente

Nneka Jenkins is a seasoned writer, highly-skilled editor and MarCom synergist.  During the last six years, Nneka has been working in Marketing Communications at Kaiser Permanente.  In previous roles, Nneka worked in the legal, media, banking, and financial industries honing her professional skills.

Nneka obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media Arts – Print Journalism from Hampton University.  She continued her studies at the University of Maryland University College, earning a Master of Science in Business and Marketing.

Throughout her career, Nneka has strived to exceed expectations and provide value at every opportunity.  She believes in continued education and professional development.  Because of her sincere dedication to her work, spirited collaboration, and commendable professionalism, her peers awarded her with Kaiser Permanente’s annual Marketing, Sales, and Business Development Achievement Award in 2011.


VICE PRESIDENT: Anita Brightman, APR
President & Founder, A. Bright Idea Advertising and Public Relations

Anita Brightman, APR

As president and founder of A. Bright Idea, Anita possesses a refreshing blend of business-savvy and creativity, Anita is the recipient of multiple communication awards including the Public Relations Society of America Award of Excellence, the Public Relations Society of America Best in Maryland Award and has been recognized in business through designation as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Minority Owned Business Enterprises and SmartCEO’s Brava Award. Anita holds a Bachelor of Science in mass communication from Towson University, a masters in publication design from the University of Baltimore, and accreditation in public relations from the Public Relations Society of America. She is a proponent of public participation and a member of the International Association of Public Participation. Anita is also a community advocate for children and volunteers her time to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore and the Harford County Public Library Foundation.

SECRETARY: Robert Hunter IV
Marketing Director, Gebhart Properties

Robert Hunter IV

Robert Hunter is a multi-award-winning Marketing Director and is currently employed with Gebhart Properties – a national property management company. Since 2004 he has been honing skills in several facets of marketing, public relations and communications. Many of his past jobs have been fast-paced and under-staffed, giving him the ability to learn and develop multiple skills at an accelerated rate. Robert has worked with companies in various industries conducting business in the B2B, B2C, and government segments – he has also done several projects for non-profit organizations.

In 2008 Robert launched his own company, Hunter Marketing Solutions, which has served the needs of multiple clients in a mostly freelance capacity. This gives Robert the ability to focus on his true passion; helping others achieve their goals though excellence in marketing and design.

Robert earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication with a Minor in Communication Studies from Towson University and he is currently working on an MBA with a concentration in Marketing from Loyola University of Maryland.

Chris Stevens

Chris Stevens

Chris is director of communications at the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future, an academic center at Johns Hopkins University that focuses on the impacts of food production on the global environment, diet, and human health.

Prior to joining Johns Hopkins in 2008, Chris served at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Washington, DC, where he authored reports to the US Congress on the agency’s progress toward the management of natural resources along the coasts of the nation’s 34 coastal states and territories. He has held senior communications positions at Allegis Group, Inc., an international staffing company based in Hanover, MD; Smith, Bucklin & Associates, Washington, DC; CSX Corporation, Baltimore, MD; Leaseway Transportation, Inc., Beachwood, Ohio; and Chessie System, Inc., Cleveland, Ohio.

A graduate of the University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Chris has been a member of PRSA since 1995 and makes his home in Owings Mills, MD.

Communications Associate, Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts

Dionne McConkey

Dionne McConkey

Dionne works as a communications associate at the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, a nonprofit organization focused on producing special events and arts programs, administering grants, and managing cultural and historic attractions.  She has nearly four years of experience in public relations, specifically developing communications strategies and materials, coordinating media interviews, implementing advertising initiatives and managing online content, including social media tools like Tumblr and Twitter.

Dionne holds a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications with a concentration on Public Relations & Promotion from Morgan State University.
