Louise Lake Hayman, APR, Fellow PRSA

 

A leader in the field of public relations for over 40 years and an active, accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America for more than 30 years, Louise Lake Hayman, APR, Fellow PRSA, has been selected as the PRSA Maryland Lifetime Achievement Honoree for 2016. Hayman will be honored at the 2016 Best in Maryland Awards Gala & Holiday Party on December 8 at The Belvedere in Baltimore.

“As an advocate for ideas in government and historic preservation organizations, Louise sets the stage effectively for informed public debate. She is known within the profession and among the media she works with as completely honest,” said Central Chesapeake Chapter president Marc L Apter, APR of Image Power Inc. “All who know her come away impressed with the loyalty she offers to her clients as well as her co-workers.”

Hayman is a communications consultant with more than 40 years experience in public relations. During her career she has served state and local government, non-profit organizations, and public corporations. Among these are Union Trust Bank, USF&G Insurance, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Office of the Governor, Office of the Comptroller, Office of the Anne Arundel County Executive, the Maryland Commission for Celebration 2000 and The Artemis Group.

Economic development, energy, environmental conservation, health insurance, community organizing, developing issue consensus, strategic planning and institutional advancement are among her areas of expertise.

Currently associated with the Governor’s Office of Transformation and Renewal, her previous clients include Priority Partners, Johns Hopkins HealthCare’s managed care organization; Corrado Management Services LLC, community re-development; the Maryland School for the Blind, and Marylanders for Reliable Power, a coalition addressing the state’s future electricity supply.

Her skills range from managing communications programs and their staff, consultants and vendors to providing strategic communications counsel to elected officials (governor, state comptroller and county executive); corporate chief executive officers; and presidents of statewide and regional organizations.

Hayman has been an active, accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America and of its local chapter for more than 30 years. She is a past member of the Maryland Chapter, and a founding member and past president of the Annapolis-Anne Arundel Chapter, now Central Chesapeake, where she currently serves as secretary. She is a recipient of the Best in Maryland award in 2001 for Special Events and Observances.

The current chair of the Maryland Historical Society, she serves on the board of advisors of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Hayman’s past volunteer efforts include Preservation Maryland (president), the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (board member), Hammond-Harwood House Association (board member), London Town Foundation (president), and the Friends of Teackle Mansion (chair of capital campaign and advisory committee member). A member of the alumnae board of her secondary school, she is an active member of the Annapolis Rowing Club. In addition, she has supported leadership, educational, and human services programs in her community.

Hayman holds a bachelor of arts degree from Goucher College and is a life-long resident of Maryland, living in Annapolis since 1972. She has one daughter and a grandson.

PRSA-MD’s Lifetime Achievement Award honors a public relations professional whose career spans 15 years or more and who has exhibited extraordinary achievements, demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of public relations and upholds the PRSA Code of Ethics.
