You are a sole practitioner and have five clients. You contacted a local university’s public relations department and agreed to take two interns over the summer. While the internships are unpaid, the students will get credit.

How do you charge the clients for the work these interns do?

Guidance — Disclosure of Information

You should discuss the use of interns with your clients. If you negotiate a fee for the interns’ work, then it would be unethical to not pay the interns. Instead you could negotiate a fee for the project itself with the disclosure that interns would be working on the project, and the employer and the student understand that the student is not entitled to wages for the time spent training.
