The Editorial and Public/Media Relations Specialist is responsible primarily for enhancing the School of Nursing’s (SON) reputation by promoting its efforts in a variety of areas through media relations, writing and editing, website content development, and photography and videography management.
The position is the SON's lead editor and contributes writing and research for all internal and external documents, publications, and marketing materials. It requires excellent written, editorial, and verbal communication skills.
The specialist will be responsible for projects from request to completion by coordinating workflow and timelines and meeting deadlines. This position will create public informational content to target audiences for SON communications, including multimedia content for use on the website and on social media.

Develops, writes, and edits press releases and other communications materials. Reacts to/and interacts with media representatives to develop and maintain relationships, pitch SON programs and activities, and respond to media inquiries. Spots media trends and prepares responses as needed.
Maintains relationships with administration, faculty, staff, and students to stay informed of new programs, events, and accomplishments.
Meets project outcomes within the public relations function to ensure project specifications and defined outcomes are met.
Contributes to production and distribution of public informational materials to a target audience using social and multimedia, such as e-newsletters, other electronic publications, website content, and the SON national award-winning biannual magazine.
Researches, writes, edits, and summarizes information for print, broadcast, and online media outlets.
Maintains inventories, databases, and digital archives.
Performs other duties as assigned, such as for videography and photography initiatives that require liaising with multiple audiences.
Education: Bachelor's in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or Business preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in marketing, communications, public or client relations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Possess an understanding of issues and trends impacting health care/academia along with the ability to create and capitalize on news-making opportunities.
Skill in acting as a liaison with clients, vendors, and staff members and effectively communicating their ideas, messages or instincts.
Strategic and analytical thinking skills with an ability to communicate complex information to the public and visualize items for consistency, accuracy, and style.
Self-motivated, self-directed and highly organized to prioritize ongoing and new projects, as well as facilitating the timely completion of production phases.
Skill in creating, curating, and publishing multimedia content.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with multi-dimensional points of view and to take accountability for deliverables, and results; skill in managing multiple complex tasks and projects concurrently; exceptional organizational skills.
Hiring Range: Commensurate with education and experience
The target range for this position is mid $50’s up to $60,000
