In coordination with the Manager, the internal communications specialist plans and implements communication strategies and tactics that drive results in reaching MedStar Medical Group internal audiences, particularly physicians and associates in physician practices. Strategizes, coordinates and develops content for multiple communication channels in support of the overall internal communications strategy. Works independently, collaboratively and with content experts to provide communications support for leadership, key departments, and committees. Supports critical message development and execution across the medical group for system physicians, advanced practiced clinicians, service line leadership, and practice management.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Builds out multifaceted internal communications initiatives to reach specific internal stakeholders, serving as liaison to all departments involved, setting and meeting deadlines, and achieving goals.

2. Collaborates with digital marketing and multiple system internal stakeholders to create strategies, implement communications, monitor and evaluate analytics of distributed communications in support of internal communication initiatives.

3. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.

4. Develops and distributes communications materials for the administration and promotion of all system surveys (associate, physician, safety, etc.).

5. Develops and implements a suite of internal communication collateral resources and ensures distribution within MMG and system.

6. Implements and disseminates communications related to key MMG and system initiatives, including tailoring communications from corporate toolkits and other sources to meet the needs of targeted stakeholder populations within MMG.

7. Supports critical internal communications projects, working closely with internal stakeholders, to develop and implement supporting tactics to reach target audiences.

8. Partners with external marketing and communications and physician relations to support physician communication to develop and implement communications that promote new providers and practices to maximize visibility internally with MMG and MedStar Health.

9. Strategizes and implements a wide range of communications and resources include, but not limited to, memos, website/intranet content, newsletter articles, email, presentations, webcasts, town hall meetings and other communications for targeted internal stakeholders within MedStar Medical Group.

10. Provides internal communications function perspective, input and action on committees as needed.

11. Strategizes additional functionality and provides content updates and monitors usage of associate social recognition website (Give A WOW) to increase traffic and support associate communication.

12. Strategizes content and functionality for the associate intranet portal (StarPort) to support associate communication; creates, provides, and maintains updates to the site.

13. Strategizes, develops, and contributes relevant content to existing MMG internal communication vehicles to build awareness, understanding and to ensure alignment in messaging within MMG and the system.

14. Strategizes, develops, and implements MMG associate events, including MMG WOW service awards, management meetings, town hall meetings, wellness initiatives, and other events.

15. Performs other duties as assigned.

16. Develops and distributes IS communications, including the production of MedConnect Optimization Update, Tip of the Week, and other salient updates.

17. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Training: Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, English, Communications or Marketing.

Experience: 3 years of public relations or related experience; healthcare experience preferred.

License/Cert/Reg: No special certification, registration or licensure required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Comprehensive understanding of all aspects related to effective, strategic communication with an emphasis on nuanced messaging, writing, and printing. Some internal events planning. Creativity and ability to organize and handle many details. Ability to work independently as a self-directed individual and as part of a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
