The Senior Communications Specialist will develop and execute a variety of strategic public relations (PR) and employee communications campaigns and materials to support Textron Systems’ reputation and growth. Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications & Digital Marketing, this position is part of the corporate marketing and communications team. This role will require proven media relations experience, as well as strong cross-functional collaboration and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to deliver innovative and measurably successful results.

Job Responsibilities (may include, but not limited to):

  • PR campaign development, execution and measurement
  • Proactive and reactive media relations, with particular emphasis in the defense/government trade media space
  • Editorial planning and execution for Textron Systems brand journalism efforts
  • Oversight of PR mailbox and hotline to ensure prompt assessment of incoming media inquiries
  • Execution of on-site PR at a variety of high-profile trade shows throughout the year
  • Partnership with a variety of internal stakeholders to recommend and execute powerful employee communications campaigns that drive positive culture
  • Direct leadership of annual communications team intern to maximize team throughput and ensure an educational, positive experience for emerging early-career talent
  • Support a variety of employee- and stakeholder-targeted communications including, but not limited to, Quarterly Leadership Calls, social media, news features, Q&As, employee newsletters, press releases and media advisories, etc.
  • Other as assigned


Candidates will be asked to present a portfolio of writing samples including, but not limited to:
• Press release
• Media advisory
• Executive communication or employee communication/newsletter
• Feature or case study
• Q&A or op-ed

• No less than 5-7 years of pertinent experience, including proven media relations and communications campaign development with measurable outcomes
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a pertinent field such as Journalism, Communications, Marketing or Business

  • Superlative verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven media relations savvy
  • Success matching and enhancing the unique editorial voices of executives and subject matter experts in a variety of written media
  • Strong project and vendor management skills
  • Strategic mindset with ability to turn business imperatives into powerful campaigns and communications
  • Creative thinker who embraces communications fundamentals but remains abreast of emerging technologies and tactics
  • Excellent organization and detail orientation
  • Proactive and action-oriented
  • Finds common ground easily with colleagues at all levels and roles
  • Comfortable coaching communications best practices
  • Experience in government/defense market strongly preferred
