A one-day local workshop, Disney’s Approach to Business Excellence program is a rare and affordable opportunity to learn best business practices from Disney insiders. Organizations from across the nation have learned proven philosophies and implemented effective processes to reap the rewards of improvements in leadership, management, service, and brand loyalty.

Provide Your Feedback to the Maryland Chapter’s PRSA Leadership Assembly Delegates

Each year, every PRSA Chapter sends their Delegates to the annual Leadership Assembly. This year, the topic the Delegates will be involved with discussing at the Assembly involves the list of knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) that is currently recognized by PRSA.

  • The list of KSAs currently recognized is as follows:

Writing Series Leads Off our Fall Programming!

We heard you! To accommodate the requests of many of our members, PRSA-MD will be offering this fall a 3-part writing series. Designed to help PR professionals sharpen their writing skills and get specific instruction on effectively writing for the new media, the series includes:

  • Part 1 – Critiqued Writing Session; September 23 – with Jean Miskimon, APR, President of JeanInkPR.  Whether you’re new to the field or considered seasoned, as PR professionals we all need to be the sharpest writers we can be.  This session looks at writing in a general sense with a focus on what makes effective writing. This is a critiqued writing session with the choice of submitting a press release or a pitch letter a week prior to the program.
  • Part 2 – Writing for SEO; October 7 – with David Aglar, VP of Weber Shandwick’s Digital Practice. Writing a pitch letter is different than writing a release; writing with SEO in mind is a whole different animal altogether. This session focuses on how to write for the web-based world.
  • Part 3 – Writing for Blogging; November 18 – with Johna Burke, Senior VP of Marketing at BurrellesLuce. Everyone has a blog – but how many are successful? How many engage the reader, and invite loyal followers and dialogue? How can blogs be written to do so? Attend the session to find out!

You can attend one, two or all three. Choose to attend all three and save $15.

Click here for details and registration.

Plus, be on the lookout for an August New Professionals Happy Hour event!

Are You Ethical? Test How Well you Know PRSA’s Code of Ethics!

In recognition of the 10th anniversary of PRSA’s Code of Ethics, the organization has developed a 10-question quiz, where you can test your knowledge. Don’t worry—it’s not a gotcha test! All answers are private.

The quiz was developed to help public relations practitioners assess their sensitivity and knowledge of professional standards, according to the Member Code. If you get any questions incorrect, you can read the explanation of the correct answer.

You’ll find the quiz at: http://bit.ly/c1uzGW.
